Growing up on Pontiac Avenue in Cranston, the son of a blue-collar family, Jack Reed knows firsthand how a good education, a good-paying job, access to high-quality health care, and an affordable place to call home helps hardworking Americans reach their full potential.  Those lessons drive Jack’s service to Rhode Island every day.

Jack Reed first took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution at the United States Military Academy at West Point.  He qualified as a U.S. Army Ranger and commanded paratroopers in the 82^nd Airborne during eight years of active-duty service.  Defining his leadership as a tested and trusted fighter for Rhode Islanders, Jack believes that our government exists to serve every American – not the powerful few. 

Jack has dedicated his life to serving his fellow Americans, helping Rhode Islanders create a better life for their families, and forging a government that works for all of us.

While Donald Trump abuses his power to serve his own political interests and skew our economy and tax system in favor of billionaires, Jack Reed is prioritizing regular Americans over the rich and powerful by fighting to lower the cost of living and clamp down on Trump’s lawlessness and corruption. 

As Trump’s tariff chaos fuels inflation and drives up costs for working families, Jack is fighting to return the money Trump illegally grabbed from working Americans.

Jack is widely recognized as a leading expert on national security in Congress.  He voted against the Iraq War, opposes Trump’s Iran War, and is using his voice and his vote in the Senate to stop Trump’s war and costly, unnecessary military operations around the world.  

Jack is focused on the future.  He believes we have an opportunity to do better.  He is using his experience to fight for transformational investments in housing, education, health care, and our environment by making billionaires pay their fair share and reforming our tax system to help Rhode Island families.  Jack knows that we must confront the social, economic, and technological challenges from artificial intelligence and the global pressures that have been worsened by the Trump Administration.  That’s why he is using his expertise in defense, housing, education, and the economy to fight for wise investments in our future, building on the billions of dollars he has delivered for Rhode Island to lift up families and drive our state forward.

Jack Reed is a proven champion for Rhode Island, fighting for and winning resources for the Ocean State like over $300 million for affordable housing construction since 2020; new research investments to grow Rhode Island’s leadership in the Blue Economy; new Coast Guard ships; more jobs down in Quonset; improvements at T.F. Green Airport to keep our state competitive; federal funding for our nonprofits; and investments to fix up our roads and bridges and expand public transit options across the state.  Jack gets the job done. 

Fighting Trump Lawlessness & Dysfunction With Accountability & Results

When Donald Trump and his Republican majorities forced their disastrous Billionaire Tax Giveaways through Congress, Jack Reed fought back. He put up more than twenty amendments on the Senate floor, forcing Senate Republicans to show their true priorities to the American people and fighting for real change for working families. Jack is ready to immediately reverse Trump’s $1 trillion cut to Medicaid and improve our health care system so that all Americans can get the care they need when they need it.  Jack is fighting to strengthen and expand the Affordable Care Act (ACA), protect and restore reproductive rights for all Americans, safeguard and boost Medicaid and Medicare from additional Republican cuts, and increase support for mental health programs like the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline that Jack helped create. 

When Republicans in Congress tried to greenlight Trump’s rogue ICE and out-of-control DHS agencies to continue trampling on the rights of Americans, Jack Reed said no.  He voted against funding Trump’s quota-driven immigration raids and is fighting to rein in Trump’s ICE lawlessness. Hammering Republicans for their out-of-touch priorities, Jack fought to redirect Trump’s unnecessary $62 billion ICE slush fund and use it instead to create millions of new affordable homes. 

When Donald Trump tried to pay back his wealthy Big Oil campaign donors by shutting down Revolution Wind off the coast of Rhode Island, Jack called the president’s bluff, rallied Rhode Island’s climate advocates and working families, and worked with his colleagues to get Trump’s reckless stop-work orders reversed, protect our environment, and lower energy bills.  

When the Trump Administration tried to circumvent Congress by unilaterally freezing federal funding for housing and infrastructure projects, Jack led the fight and helped melt Trump’s freeze and got the funds flowing to the Ocean State again. 

When the Trump Administration tried to zero out the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), Jack recruited colleagues on both sides of the aisle to protect these critical programs. Jack delivered so vulnerable families and seniors on fixed incomes weren’t left in the cold with high heating bills.
